Open-source AI models from Google, Meta, and others may actually be quite closed, according to a recently updated definition of the term. The lengthy new definition comes from the Open Source Initiative (OSI), which has considered itself the steward of the open source definition since its founding in 1998. The OSI has been working on an updated definition for two years.
